PhD in Political Science

The PhD program is designed to prepare students for teaching and conducting research about government, for careers in government and politics, and for work in domestic and international non-governmental organizations. Course offerings support students' specializations in one of four fields: American government and politics; international relations, comparative politics, or public administration.

In this program students may combine their classroom education with opportunities for experience in the kinds of complex domestic and international political organizations they are studying, such as government agencies, think-tanks, international institutions, non-governmental organizations, journals of political opinion, and congressional offices. This model of political science education is patterned after the American Political Science Association's Congressional Fellows Program. The objective is to provide students with the opportunity to expand their academic understanding and to make genuine contributions to the domestic and international institutions in which they have worked and studied.

We also offer a MA in political science.
