MA in Political Science
Political science is concerned with the study of governments and politics in national and international settings. Political ideas, processes, institutions, and actions are investigated with a variety of humanistic and social scientific methods. Course offerings comprise American politics and institutions, comparative governments, and international relations.
Students may specialize in American government and politics, or international relations and comparative politics. In addition, the degree's interdisciplinary opportunities allow students to take up to 9 hours in related fields such as history and public policy. All MA students must complete a substantial research project in the form of a project paper or a thesis. To learn about the difference between these choices, see the Guidelines for Master's Projects and Theses.
The MA degree in political science is the first step in an engaging and stimulating career. Students develop a deeper understanding of political ideas and institutions, more sophisticated research skills, a better grasp of the intricacies of governments abroad, and a deeper knowledge of the complexities of international politics. This degree can lead to a career teaching about government, working with legislative bodies, government agencies, and international organizations; or doing research and writing about politics and government.
We also offer a PhD in political science.
